   i was trying to make main area and sidebars wider(main 100px, sidebar 250px) but the result is bad looking. any suggestions?

   to get you started:

   assuming that main area means the overall width.

   #wrapper{width:1000px;}
   #left-col,#nav{width:680px;}
   #sidebar{width:310px;}

   possibly more.

   you will need to identify and change (graphic edit) a few background images:

   images/content-top-bg.png
   images/content-bottom-bg.png
   images/sidep-handle.png
   images/sidep-bottom.png

   and possibly more.
