I am using the default theme. Is it possible to have the first post the width of the site? I can move the sidebar down (I think) so that is not a problem. Then older posts would be a smaller width to accomodate the sidebar.
I have looked for other themes to do this but so far, no joy. If you know of one that will work pls let me know.

I think what I want is to add a "featured post" to the default theme. I will continue my search . . .

Moving the most recent post into the header.php takes care of the main idea but I will have to call a different header for other pages.
On the right track so I will mark this resolved.
Figuring out what I wanted to do was called was the important part as that let me use search.
