    Hi!

Over the course of almost two years, I have made all of my changes to the twenty ten parent theme. I knew nothing about child themes, attempted to make one with little success. I am now being scared that not making updates is dangerous and I can lose all my work – just did a full backup of my theme today.

How would I go about make a child theme after I already made major changes to all the files of the twenty ten theme?

Please be very very specific because I am totally lost when it comes to this.

No easy way really. If it’s really major changes then you more likely have a completely different theme.

Any chance you can use a diff tool to find what/where you made changes? That would be the first step in getting it sorted out.

Or you could start from scratch with a new Twenty Ten child theme, but I’m sure you know that already. 😉

@sophie – this thread might be helpful – the OP had the same situation. As noted there, make very sure to make frequent copies of your file as you are working.
