How to make blog network like SmashingMagazine

This is just an educated guess, but:

Considering that each post in the ‘network’ is from another website which is posted by someone else from that other website, perhaps the Smashing Network feature is like an RSS feed of various websites that Smashing Magazine subscribes to/enjoys articles from?

EDIT: Added to that, then perhaps that Network is something similar to an RSS feed reader that displays content that Smashing Magazine subscribes to?
