How to make Articles page that's seperate from blog (9 posts)

    Hello to all.

I'm trying to figure out a way to have an articles section that's seperate from my blog. The blog will of course be for material that I write myself. Then, I want a seperate articles section where I post material/articles from others. The articles section/page should have it's own categories that are seperate from the blog categories.

For instance, I want to list the blog categories and the seperate articles categories all on the sidebar. When users click on the articles category, it takes them to all the articles in that category. And of course, they click the article and can read it.

I hope what I just said makes sense and that someone can help me figure out how to do this.

Thanks in advance. I've already found a lot of great info from this forum. I'm stuck at this part, but sure I can get through it with your help.

    Thanks again.

you can do one thing. Install one more wordpress into a sub folder (or subdomain). And then in your sidebar, you can give links to users to brows those categories..

Hey, Ryan...can I still manage both installs from one WordPress back end or do I have to use two different back ends?

I meant can I add all my articles and blog posts via the one wordpress back end and they still show up where they are supposed to?

no, in this case, you will have to manage both installation from different dashboards. They will be completely different.

There should be some other way to achieve this, but I dont know how.

Would WordPress MU be ideal for this type of thing? It seems as though it's meant to support more than two blogs.
Any more answers on this issue?

I think that's too much work. I have the same thing and just post all my articles in there. If i wanted separate sections for Food, Wine, Beer articles you could make those categories, or, create articles-beer, articles-food....

In the above case would put them together. If you had Food, Fireworks, and race cars those are all very different topics.

    Just my $.02 :)

Thanks for the info, Ryan. But, there has to be an easier way to do this without having to use two different installations.

I'm a newbie but I think you might be able to accomplish your goals by using a plug-in call Inline Posts. Here's the link to check it out http://aralbalkan.com/wordpress It's a free plug-in.

In a nutshell, it will allow you to create posts that act as individual pages. You can then easily add tags to the pages with a feature provided by the plugin. From there you will then be able to assign the pages to the tags/i.e. categories you want.

I hope that works for you!
