how to make a child theme and keep the changes i made? (3 posts)

    i changed some of the theme files, and now i can't update the Custom Community theme, i don't know how to make a child theme, and how to keep the changes i made in the files so that i can update the theme?

    The WordPress Codex has useful information on Child Themes.

    Using the child theme would allow you to update and keep the custom changes.

    Depending on how much changes you made, you might be able to just take a copy of them line by line, update the theme, and re-apply whilst you create a child theme. If you're changing core files you should really keep a change log so you know exactly what you've changed.
