How to link to local files

Hi,

Here is the scenario, I’m using WP as a PIM in my ubuntu box, and all my data (pdf, jpg, mp3, avi, …) are on my hard drive. When I use firefox to open jpg or avi files, firefox will open the photo or video directly or by using plug-ins, and the address is like “file:///…./*.jpg” or “file:///…./*.avi”. I try to make link in post by using these address, but I can’t open the file after clicking the link. When I copy the link address and use firefox to open it, that will work.

I don’t have any experience with apache, but I think there should be something to do with it. Is there anyone can give me a direction.
