Sorry if this has been asked but your forum has no search option.
I am following the instructions in setting up the wordpress, but it wants me to set up a SQL USER?
WTF there is no option in my websites control panel for this so it must be editing a word perss file, which file do i edit?
The SQL user is the ID that has access to your SQL database. In lieu of a dedicated SQL ID, you can often use your ID/password combo that you use to log into your control panel, but personally I'd see if you can create a dedicated ID for SQL :)
nope no option i'll try that thanks
nope nothing works. does this not work with windows 7 64 bits?
WordPress is supposed to be installed on a WebServer. Are you doing that or is this on your PC?
i put it on the webserver but it says
Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.
* Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
* Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
* Are you sure that the database server is running?
thats yes x 3 there.
Contact your hosting provider to confirm that the database server is online and that you've entered the correct values in your wp-config.php file.
What if you don't have a hosting site yet? Can you still download it and start playing with WP?

You would need to setup a local server environment. if you need further assistance, please start your own topic.

There's a search box on the front page of the forums.
And, don't forget that it's on the top-right corner of every page at wordpress.org too.
