How to install API key on WordPress Platform website

I am running my webiste on a WordPress Platform. This is not a Blog but a Website.

However, I cannot get to install the API key although I have the following notice in the backend highlighted in red: “WordPress.com Stats needs attention: please enter an API key or disable the plugin.”

I tried using an API key from my Blog Account but I got the following error message.

Error from last API Key attempt:
Your blog was unable to connect to WordPress.com. Please ask your host for help. (transport error – could not open socket: 1 Operation not permitted)

The WordPress.com Stats Plugin is not working because it needs to be linked to a WordPress.com account.

Enter your WordPress.com API key to link this blog to your WordPress.com account. Be sure to use your own API key! Using any other key will lock you out of your stats
