   Total WP novice here working on 1st site. I chose this free theme b/c of its ability to have individual pictures placed next to the posts which appear in the slider and body of the home page.

   However, all I am able to do is use the dashboard to place pictures in the posts themselves. Pictures in the posts do not translate onto the home page, where I really want them.

   This is the template/download page for the theme, "Ecologic":

   The boxes where the word "Ecologic" appears are those I'm referencing. This is where I'd like to place pics. Any help would be greatly appreciated

   Don't multi-post the same question. Read the docs for the theme and ask the theme developer. If the theme still doesn't work, find another: WordPress › Free WordPress Themes
