How can I insert working html code into a wordpress page in the page editor? when I enter html code, it merely prints the code onto my page.
I have been tasked to administer an existing wordpress page, but my only web experience has been using html. I have been given some html code to add paypal buttons, but I cannot get it to work. I feel lost here.

Which editor are you using? Have you tried using the HTML tab?

When I click the html tag, nothing happens. It appears to be grayed out? I dunno what editor I am using, how can I tell? I inherited this page, the person who was maintaining it had very little knowledge of it and I am not able to contact the person who initially created, set up and designed it. This is wordpress 3.3.1 btw.

If you are not using the HTML tab, then you must be using the Visual WYSIWYG Editor - which is no good for entering HTML markup. It will also remove any previously entered markup. First we need to figure out why you do not have access to the HTML tab. Have you tried:
- deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
- switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
- resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
I'd also suggest upgrading to WP 3.3.2 asap.

I deactivated all the plugins, and it seems to work now. Now comes the fun part of pinpointing which one it was...
