How to insert fields into advanced edit section of post

I need to write a plugin that adds a form into the advanced edit section of the post write/edit page. I have tried so far by adding the hook ‘edit_form_advanced’ but it is not sufficient, as the form does not show up. Do I need to add additional hooks? Filters?
