I installed 1.5 joomla en migrated the content from 1.7 tot 1.5. From here see http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/joomla-15-importer/faq/
It worked for me. I’ll hope it will work for you to.

I have been searching Google and browsing Joomla’s extension directory for a migration tool that will take articles from 1.7 and import them into 1.5, but all I can manage to locate are migraters from 1.5 to 1.7
You wouldn’t recall the name of the tool you used for that would you?

how did you do to migrate joomla 1.7 to 1.5?
I need to migrate my joomla to wordpress but need to follow the same way like you did as there is no plugin supporting 1.7 to WP..
Has anyone actually moved from 1.7 to 1.5 and more importantly can you outline how this was done as I see 1.7 is a very different structure to 1.5. Thanks in advance

The plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/fg-joomla-to-wordpress/ is now compatible with Joomla 1.7 (and Joomla 1.6 as well).
