How to go from sub directory on server to root with little or no down time? (3 posts)

Obviously there isn't a database to mess with with static sites. But how do all these developers have the existing site up and running while setting up the new site? Then when its time for the switch they install from the test folder/directory into the root of the server with no database problems? What changes do they need to make to the database?

I have always wondered whats the quickest way to do that with no down time. Heck it may be simpler than what I am thinking. But it seems like when major sites have their BETA version up for testing, even for the public to check out. All of a sudden its in the root and everything works upon the launch of the new site and removal of the old version.

    Thanks, Clayton

I have read all that before. I understand those options. But I guess I would be moving from a subdirectory to root. That way you can test things, get content filled in etc... Then when ready for the launch you can move it. But you have to fix the URL's so it works correctly. I guess you do that in your settings before the actual change takes effect.
