Hi, today I just installed WordPress MU. I created a domain but not via subdomain but through Domain Setup in Direct Admin. I’ve installed in blogs.domain.com . My goal is to create 155 new blogs using MU formatted like xyz.domain.com, however after logging and trying to create a new blog it is formatted like this xyz.blogs.domain. This is too lengthy and just not cool, so I’m wondering is there a way to fix this in its current state so that I can create all those new blogs in the format xyz.domain.com ?

My host provider said maybe there is a way to change it in the config file but they’re not familiar with it so I’m posting for help here among you experts!

  • In order to get username1.yoursite.com, username2.yoursite.com, etc. you have to install WPMU in root i.e. http://yoursite.com, it’s as simple as that.

However, since aforementioned are virtual paths and generated folders in server and database tables are not organized that way, there could be a script to hack it to what you want – but I haven’t seen one yet, so you might have to pay someone to do that. You have to take into consideration that WP and WPMU codebases will be merging in version 3.0 so that script might break then.

You should also be posting in WPMU forums – http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/

Thanks for your response, I already have a site on the root directory and when I installed it there it didn’t work. But yeah I’ll post on the the mu forum
