How to get video format posts to show on homepage

    Hi all,

    I”m looking to actually use the different formats available in the new theme, video in particular. I created a new post with how I would normally get videos to appear on a post, which is just pasting the youtube link as text.

    You can see the first post is the video format but it just displays the link as text instead of the youtube video. If you click on the post, it will display the video. I want it to show the youtube box on the homepage, which I see the twentyfourteen demo can do. Anyone know how to enable this?

    Videos will not normally display in excerpts – that’s how WordPress works.

    I believe you are using the Fourteen Extended plugin for your home/index settings? If so then I’m actually looking at a better way to generate the excerpts so that they include the embed media.

    Will have an update on that by the end of the week if not then by early next week. However I’ll post a solution here as soon as I’ve sorted the function out.

    I kinda thought it would be excerpt. What’s strange is the twentyfourteen demo seems to be able to choose the post types on the frontpage. There are some posts with full article, others with a summary and a “continue reading” link, along with videos and pics.

    can you give the code of your functions.php file here and share the link here. We will check the code and add a conditional tag for your video format post.

    You are using a plugin for post excerpt. if yes then you will contact with that plugin’s developer about it.

    Otherwise you can disable the plugin and add the custom code for excerpt in your functions.php file with some filter option. If you search on net then you will get the code for excerpt.
