I'm at a lost, a huge lost. I have an error on my site when I switched to have my blog search engine friendly. Well you probably know it had option for permalinks. I picked Custom Structure and wrote /%category%/%postname%/ When I did htat I got the 500 internal error. So, I looked around and heard that there should be a htacces file, but I don't have one so I made my own, no luck. I heard you're suppose to put it in the default folder of your site which for me would be /public_html, but I already have a htaccess folder there for my regular website and I can't replace it. I have a SEO plugin but I'm not sure how to use it, it's called http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-seo/?topic_id=5899

Is mod_rewrite running on your server?

I believe so. I can get urls to work perfectly in my other site which uses a CMS.

You need to check that it is running first. Your other CMS may not be using rewrites.
