Support » Fixing WordPress » How to get rid of default permalinks?

  • Hi All,

Just a couple of days, something seems to have gone wrong with my wordpress site.

All this while, I had been using “post name” permalinks, but now it has changed to default permalinks like site.com/?p=500

I don’t remember changing any settings, however I did install three plugins – email before download, contact form 7 and download monitor.

I also tried delightful downloads a couple of days back before deleting it.

Could this be the reason for the permalinks getting changed?

How do I revert it back to post name permalinks?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Did you actually switched back to the desired permalink structure in Settings → Permalinks ?

Thanks “Media X” for your reply.

I haven’t switched back to the default permalink. In fact my permalink settings is currently set to post name.

However when I create a new post, it creates a link like this:

    site.com/?p=500.

Try switching to default permalink structure. Save. Then switch to post name and re-save.

    Nah, tried it, not working.

When I enter a name for a new post, the permalink under it shows the post name in the URL.

However, in the snippet preview section of the WordPress SEO plugin (which is under the post) shows the URL as site.com/?p=xxx

Then try deactivating all plugins to see if that changes anything.

You mean this is only for testing right?

Because I’ve got quite a few plugins running on my site.

Yes, to see if it’s plugin related.

    Cool !

I turned off all of them and created a new post, and it works fine.

So now do I turn them on one by one and check out or is there a better way ?

Turn them on one by one.

Yeah, I’ll try it out and post the result here.
