• I’m trying to setup my site as more of a traditional site to where the main page just has some basic info and links to my catagories or individual posts instead of my blog basically just being one page. I’ve seen this done before on wordpress but I don’t know how they did it, I don’t know if its something that depands on your theme or if I need to download certain plugins or what I need to do. Any help would be appreciated

  • Hi.

    So you’d just create a static page called Home or whatever that contains your info & links.

    Then change your settings here:

    Settings -> Reading

    Then change ‘Front page displays’ to two different pages – for your home page & post page.

    I’m also trying to figure this out. I see what Cambo is saying, but that setting delegates a page such as a home page vs. a page with blog posts.

    What I believe me and NEAdmin are trying to do is get posts under different categories on their own pages.
    For example: on my site, (http://chicagorants.com/) I do some posts categorized as ‘Chicago restaurants’… it would be cool if these posts were grouped together on their own page, tabbed at the top under ‘Chicago restaurants’

    If your theme supports custum navigation menus you can just add the category to the menu under Appearance > Menus

    Thanks keesiemeijer! worked great! I added a page for ‘Chicago restaurants’ that shows posts with my categrories ‘chicago restaurants’

    But in the category section of my permalink there is a number ‘/chicago-restaurants-2/’ though I do not have any prior categories with the same name. Why is this happening and how can I get rid of it? I dont believe it has to do with my new menu I think it was already happening before

    thanks in advance!

    Try changing the slug when editing the category under Posts > Categories.

    thanks kessiemeijer, i thought that was going to work, but came up with an error message “The slug “chicago-restaurants” is already in use by another term” even though I have no other categories with the name ‘chicago restaurants’

    Im going to try deleting the category and recreating it

    still coming up with a ‘-2’ after it -.- this happen to anyone else?

    Got it! I had tags with the same name and words as my categories. I deleted the tags and I was then able to change the slug. Thanks!

    yeah – love custom menus 🙂
