   Found out the hard way I can't afford to miss a WordPress update, after several installations were infected with malware. I need bulletproof notification when WordPress is updated, because I am too busy with other things to be constantly checking. How is this done?

   You could sign up to the Announcements mailing list:

   I created an ID some time ago. Never got an update when 2.9 came out. Found that the check box was not checked to receive announcements in my profile, so checked it. Today I learn via another source that 2.9.1 is out. Return, box is still checked... so was there an announcement distributed or not? Seeking something to notify me when I need to patch servers.

   I didn't get an announcement for 2.9.1 but I was definitely pre-warned about 2.9.

   That being the case, I set up a monitor of http://wordpress.org/download/ URL which will notify me when that page changes.

   21:17, update notification finally arrived in my InBox from WordPress. LOL!
