• Hi.
I have been using this plugin for a while and finally decided for a little change. Which is changing related posts view into thumbnails. Unfortunately i hit rock and cant find solution.

On my site lets say.. Half of images are external. Like from free image hosting site. Posts always start with some kind of picture, i know i can make related posts thumbs to pull first image and resize to 120px. But i dont find it as good solution since images are normally big. Simply waste of load time.

What i want is to generate specific size thumbnails from first image in posts. And how can i do that? I tested a lot of different plugins and they all have one thing in common, they regenerate thumbs of uploaded files. And some failed even at that.

I even tested different related plugins and nrelate do exacly what i want. But i want my own thumbs on my own server with yarpp algorithm. And i cant find any plugin that would do that.

For the future i also wanted to make it generate thumbs automatically for uploaded files. I tried putting define(‘YARPP_GENERATE_THUMBNAILS’, true); into functions as FAQ mentioned. But it does not work, no thumbs generated.

i would appreciate if someone could take time and help me out.
    thanks

Problem with no automatic generation of specific thumbs fixed.
In settings/media i did not have thumb size specified. (only in functions). And now it works fine. So thats ok.

As for main problem. I wasted lots of time to make it happen unsuccesfully. The one thing that worries me and seems riddiculous, is fact that YARPP to show thumbs looks for featured image. And featured image is not set automatically. It is yet another plugin required to set thumbs up. Plugin or function to set first image in post as featured.

I used auto post thumbnail plugin to set up featured images and unexpected for me..thing happened. Almost all external first images were copied to wordpress media and at the same time automatically created specified size thumbs. Which is great but..
It still does not work well with yarpp. Lots of thumbs still were not showing up. And the worst part of it, it embed those images to posts. And i use method of pulling the first image of post on tag pages. (it does look first for uploaded image.. as i use it more recently.) Not sure how for seo that works when in tag pages, pictures have different path than the same ones in posts. I do not like it anyway.
I tried deleting them and so on.. but yarpp still does not show all. Is there really no easy fix to this?

Sorry you’re having these issues. Our FAQ and also this post explain how to set up proper thumbnails.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you for answer.

However it does not help in the least.
Simple Image Sizes seems the same as Regenerate Thumbnails. They only regenerate uploaded images, which iam not interested, since they already work fine for me. I tried it out to check if it do external images. But i am stuck for an hour just calculating estimation of regeneration. I did try regenerating media which worked like it should. But obviously big no for external images.

I did read FAQ yet another time.. and there is simply nothing about my problem. I just want thumbs for uploaded and external files. Hard to image someone else did not have this problem before. At this point i would be even satisfied with simply resized external thumbs + regenerated uploaded media. Unfortunately wordpress does not allow external images as featured. I will try some plugin that will allow external images as featured. But if iam correct it would only end up resizing. But that would be still better than nothing.

I see. Yes, that’s outside the scope of YARPP. Good luck!
