kennywrightI'm trying to create a site that allows authors to come together and share their stories with one another. I've got a number of the kinks worked out in terms of workflow and registration, but what I can't figure out is one rather important aspect: following authors you enjoy. The idea is that if you like an author's stories, you can mark them as a favorite, or follow them, and when you visit your profile, you can see all the authors you've favorited or followed.
I've looked at Buddypress and while it's a great option, it's a bit overkill for what I'm looking for. Additionally, it requires friends to accept one another before they can be added. This makes sense in a social network, but not for what I'm trying to do. Following someone should be one way. Also, I know there's a BP plugin called Followers, but this hasn't been updated for BP 1.5 and doesn't appear to be getting updated (another reason I'm hesitating on BP, because any updates could break my future site).
So, does anyone know of a way to follow/favorite authors/users/members and have those favorites/followed appear in your own profile?
