• I have a blog with a large number of posts. I need to give someone a hard copy of the posts, just title, content and date. My immediate thought was to go to phpMy Admin and export the table to Excel, filter out all but the post-type=post and cut out a few columns.

But the option to export to Excel is no longer there.

I’ve tried exporting to csv, but I don’t know how to get this to display in a meaningful Excel manner.

I’ve looked at many of the other export options like xml etc, but it isn’t obvous to me how to remove all the stuff I don’t need without cutting and pasting and going through every one of several thousand posts isn’t on.

    Any ideas?

You can simply open the file in excel. I’m sorry but this isn’t a WordPress issue. Try reading up on Excel or posting on an Excel forum.

Sure, I’ve had a look around excel and phpmyadmin forums and found little of any help. I can post there, but I thought there might well be WP people who knew what to do.

I’ve managed export csv files previously but the tables although large, weren’t from WP and I’ve managed to clean them up reasonably easily. WP adds a lot of other stuff that makes this hard.

I wondered if there might be a WP plugin that helped do this or some other solution. I can’t be the only person who has ever wanted to output the contents of a blog like this.

    Hi,

Are you still having trouble with this problem? I might be able to help. Which version of Excel do you have? Is it 2007 or greater? Would you be open to a connection betweeen Excel and your mySQL database? I could create a template and walk you thru the steps.

Thanks, I’ve managed to work out how to do this now simply exporting as a CSV. I don’t know what has altered, but it seems to work now.
