Which version of the plugin are you using? I know I’m using the latest version (4.3.2) on WordPress 3.6.1 and I do have a checkbox on the right-hand side of the article editor which allows me to exclude the post from my sitemap.
Maybe you just need to upgrade the plugin?
Hi Bichareh, currently there is only the option to exclude individual posts from the normal XML Sitemap. You can increase control over your News Sitemap by limiting to certain categories in the deveopment version. Follow these steps:
1. Go to http://wordpress.org/plugins/xml-sitemap-feed/developers/ and download the Development Version (under Other Versions);
2. Uninstall the current version (note: this will also remove all related database entries!) from your website and install the dev version via the Plugins > Add new | Upload dialog;
3. Go to Settings > Reading and reconfigure your sitemaps there
4. Go to Posts > Categories and create one (or more!) dedicated News category (call it whatever you like)
5. Assign all posts (at least from the last 48 hours) that you want in the News Sitemap to this category
6. Back on Settings > Reading in the News Sitemap options at ‘Categories’, limit posts in the News Sitemap to the dedicated news category.
Alternatively, wait for the next release as the option to exclude indivisual posts from the News Sitemap is planned (but not yet implemented in the dev version)…

We have news category such as tutorials or Howto and we would like these to be excluded from the News Sitemap. Is there anyway to exclude catrgories from the News sitemap only. Thanks.
@arnieswap – this is possible with the development version. Download it from http://wordpress.org/plugins/xml-sitemap-feed/developers/ and upload via FTP overwriting the current version on your site. You will see a new option to limit news posts to certain categories. That’s not exactly the same as exluding a particular category but still, by including all others you get the same result 🙂
