How to enlarge image in my post (4 posts)

    I am using the default twenty eleven theme. I am trying to show a large image in my posts. However, even if I change the size in the Settings tab while inserting the media, or even by selecting the full size for my image, the size does not increase.
    I guess it has got something to do with the maximum allowable size for the selected theme. I have seen websites that show images that are larger than the column width of the theme. How to do it?

    Correct. Uploaded images are controlled by the theme's functions.php and stylesheet files. But don't edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. First create a child theme for your changes.

    Thanks Esmi. After creating the child theme, still it will have the same style.css file as in the parent theme? How will I make changes for displaying larger images?

    Yes. If you add new CSS rules to the child theme, they will then over-write the same rules in the parent theme.

    By amending the CSS for posted images via the child theme. I'd recommend using Firefox with the Firebug add-on for this kind of CSS work.

    You may also have to add something like:

    if ( ! isset( $content_width ) )
    	$content_width = 700;

    to the child's functions.php file substituting 700 with your preferred max image width.
