How to: edit sidebar so there is no widgets

I am making a company profile website, and i want to clean out some functions, hide them or whatever,

is it possible to remove all the widgets in the sidebar ?

such as blogroll, meta categories ect ?

I did try to ad and remove in the widgets page, but i cant figure out how to get rid of them, i did read somewhere i need to PHP edit the sidebar.php,

is there a more simple solution ?
