I see where I can add an item to the menu, but not how to delete something that is appearing twice. I'm using RT Theme5, if that makes any difference? I would ask their support but they're not responding to me.
Is there a way to edit the html code of the menu bar - which I see in Firebug? How do I find that page - all I see is php and js files.
As this is a commercial theme whose template files are not freely available, we cannot help. You need to seek support from the theme's vendors.

I understand you can't help debug the theme files, but can anyone tell me if there is such a thing as the html file that I see when I view the source code? If I can find that file I can edit it, I just don't know how to find that file.
WordPress does not use html files, All pages are generated on demand from the database using the relevant template in the theme.
