Support » Fixing WordPress » How to Download WordPress DB

  • My site, azfans.com is no longer loading due to the PHP on the server being upgraded and some of the PHP functions depreciating. I don’t know if this is fixable, as I have no received any suggestions/help.

I cannot access my admin either. Is there another way I can download the data from my WordPress DB so that I can run a fresh install of the new version and upload my old data?

The only thing is that I will no longer have vBridge functionality and will be missing alot of the plug-ins, but it’s a starting point if there is no other solution…

    Thanks,

    Jon

  • Here’s a video on how to download your database without logging into WordPress.

WordPress also tells you how to do it right here.

Thanks, I will give it a shot. My only concern is that I am running pre- 2.7 version and am going to upgrade to 3.0. Will the tables be the same? Will i run into any problems?

Also, from your experience with WP and as a host, do you have any idea what happened to my site based on those errors? I was running 2.6.x and vBridge, then my site suddenly stopped loaded a few months ago.

    Thanks,

    Jon

    Hi Jon.

Just first make sure to back up all your files and your database before you do anything.

Upgrades are tricky. The answer I want to give is, “no you shouldn’t have any problems upgrading”, but that’s just not the case every time.

Personally, if you are worried you might screw something up and you don’t have much experience with this, my advice would be to seek out professional help to upgrade your blog. The small investment could save you a TON of headaches.

About the errors, not sure why it would stop all of a sudden. Usually there needs to be some action point that occurred which caused the problem. Oh I just reread and noticed you said about the PHP being upgraded. That could possibly affect your blog, yes. For example, if you upgraded from php4 to php5 it may or may not upset your WordPress install.

Sorry though, I can’t be much more help as far as that is concerned.

Good luck and again, it’s probably best to hire a pro at fixing and upgrading your site.

I still have FTP and CPanel access so that should be doable. I’m just concerned because the vBridge plug-in changed some setting to share a user database and have a single sign-on. It’s my fear that if I upload everything again or to a new server I’d get the same issue.

I think the best thing it to take the DB and upload it to a new WP install of 3.0 and go from there. I’ll just have to get rid of the forums while I work on using Buddy Press instead.

Can you recommend any WP experts to hire? I’d at least like a diagnosis and see if anything can be done to minimalize damage.

    Thanks for the help.

    Jon
