How to display the total number of comments?

    When I try this template tag:

    <?php comments_number(); ?>

    It displays the total number of comments but also says “Comments” after it, like so:

    10 Comments

    I just want it to say just “10”

    What can be done to the above tag to strip the “Comments” suffix?
