   Hi all,

   Rather than displaying the full entry (as some of my blogs will be quite long) is there a way to preview the the first paragraph, and click "read more" to then go into the full article?

   You need to use the <!--more--> quicktag along with proper use of the_content template tag.

   Customizing_the_Read_More explains in detail.
