If you want to make future posts viewable by everyone, why not just publish the posts immediately? What's the point of scheduling publication for a later date?

The pint is to use the date for other calculations.
Can this 404 be disabled? is there a hook?

Not that I know of. Perhaps there's another way to approach this date calculation problem. Can you give some more details of what you're trying to achieve?
