Can I have an index2.php file and redirect the htacess file for the meantime? If so how do I redirect the page for the time being so I can change it later?

Install WP in a sub-folder then redirect it to take over the root domain when ready.

Thank you for your response, but then I'll have to redirect the URLs afterwards. I've had problems with migrating wordpress from one place to another so I feel the redirect might be best.
