How to Determine if it's a robot that's viewing content (5 posts)

In order to view some of our content you need to be logged in. However, we want robots to be able to index our content, and they're not logged in. Is there anyway to determine if it's a robot who's accessing the content?

I'm sure that there is, as I also run a phpBB forum that knows which robot is accessing the content.

Does you forum allow guest reading? A robot is just another kind of visitor. If you hide content from general visitors, it's likely that you'll be keeping it from the robots.

The content that you're allowed to see is limited when you're not logged in. You can easily register and log in. I just want to treat the robot as a logged in user.

I don't know any any mechanism within WordPress to register a bot as a user.

I don't actually need to register/login the bot. If I can tell that it's a bot, I can allow it to see the content.
