How to deal with a personal attack in an anonymous comment (4 posts)

I just received a comment on my blog that was filled with hate. It attacked me, my career, my writing ability, and my ethnicity. I was told to go kill myself - but to make sure I make plans for my pet (who I name and talk about on my blog) first before doing so.

I'm obviously a bit shaken. I know this is a troll behavior, but it's kind of got to me because I feel like the person knows me. (My blog is very personal and tiny, hardly any followers...) They spent over an hour on my blog before commenting their nasty vitriol!

I published the comment, and responded with a sense of humor so Troll doesn't know they got to me. I feel like standing up to a bully is the best thing to do.

However, my other blogger friends say to delete the comment and not respond.

I am curious to know what the wider blogging community thinks. I am new to blogging and - even though I thought this could be a potential pitfall to blogging openly - genuinely upset.

    Thanks.

Delete or ignore them. If you respond, it shows that the troll has gotten a reaction, which is exactly what they are after.

  3. Delete. 100% delete. And put the email in your ban filter and the IP in your moderate one.

Thank you both very much. I have done so... Don't feed the trolls!

    Pax.
