How to create specific style image thumbnail gallery?

    Hello there everyone! Ex-blogger user here, I am new to self-hosted wordpress but LOVING it! Don’t know if its relevant to mention this but am using Headway theme.
    My question is about how to do a specific style of thumbnail gallery. I love the way this artist has his galleries set up:

    Note he has rounded corners, a ‘faded’ look upon hover, and alt text. He seems to use dotclear instead of wordpress though.

    I have researched high and low, tried Nextgen plugin, and visuallightbox (which only seems to publish to html – not straight to wordpress pages). Just cannot find out how to make my thumbnails look like that.

    If anyone might be able to tell me the best way to create these kinds of thumbnail galleries, I’d be very grateful!
