[resolved] how to create RSS feed featuring text different than post content? (4 posts)

    Hello,

    (We're actually using WordPress 3.4.1.)

    If at all possible, we need our RSS feed to feature text that is *different* from our posts. Is that possible? In other words: the RSS feed would feature text a; our post would feature text b.

    I've just now looked through discussions in this forum, but couldn't find anything that matched what we're looking for.

    Does anyone have ideas how that could be done? If so, please let me know. We've been providing partial feeds only, but a recent article was scraped just last night. Google indexed/ranked the scraper's article (a minor blog), but not ours. I'm assuming our *original* content was seen as a duplicate.

    We've been having serious problems with scrapers and/duplicate content that in turn has led to issues with Google -- whose bot apparently can't tell who posted what first. (Note: our feed already includes date, author, site, etc.)

    Any assistance would be MUCH appreciated.

    Can you post your site URL?

    The site's url is http://www.altfg.com/

    We were able to get the RSS feed to display different content from the post by using the manual excerpt option. So, THAT problem has been resolved ... However, ANOTHER problem has arisen...

    Our homepage and tag / author archives now display the full, lengthy manual description that we want ONLY in the RSS feed.

    How can we keep the manual description for the RSS feed BUT have the home page and the archive pages show the AUTOMATIC excerpt?

    And here's another questions: Is it at all possible to have a different POST TITLE for the RSS feed? Or...?

    Any assistance would be MUCH appreciated.

    We've tried different things that we saw at various WordPress forum topics, but all we managed to do was get several "parse errors" and 500 error messages...

    Currently, the site's functions.php file has the following code re: excerpt length (this applies ONLY to the automatic excerpt):

    [Note: the longer, 105, length was for our feed. "65" is the length for the excerpts on the site, e.g., homepage, archive pages.]

    if (function_exists('add_filter'))
    add_filter('excerpt_length', 'my_excerpt_length');
    function my_excerpt_length($length) {
    if( is_home() ) {
    $length = 65;
    } else {
    $length = 105;
    }
    return $length;
    }

    if (function_exists('add_filter'))
    add_filter('excerpt_length', 'new_excerpt_length');
    function new_excerpt_length($length) {
    if( is_archive() ) {
    $length = 65;
    }
    return $length;
    }

    I'm closing this topic, since the issue now is a different one.
    I'll be posting another query in a sec...
