    On my homepage

  2. http://www.DominicKamp.de
  3. I currently offer many wallpaper for free download to your desktop. Unfortunately, I have no control over any kind of statistics (e.g. how many downloaded - which in specific?).

I would LOVE to have a structure like on

  4. http://www.interfacelift.com
  5. , where people can choose their resolution and hit the download button. Even better, I can see exactly, how often which picture has been downloaded so far and registered users can leave comments.

Please tell me, that there's something like that for WP!

There is no plugin like that for wordpress, you have to either program it on your own or you hire someone who does it for you.
Such special stuff is - mostly - not easy to code and costs a lot of money to develop, so it's likely to become pretty expensive.

Also, for this kind of application (automatic multi image resizing & cropping), you'll need lots of processing power and of course disk space on your server, so you probably need to rent a much more expensive server.

Even if you still want it, I don't recommend you to use it as a plugin for WordPress, as even WordPress requires enough processing power and with another heavy plugin running at the same time... forget it. Not as plugin, best is standalone.

Thanks nfx for your detailed and helpful answer!

So just to clarify: If I get a freelance programmer to program me a construct like on Interfacelift and merge it with my WordPress blog (if that's even possible), my server's processing power wouldn't handle it?

What if I resize the wallpaper on my computer and then upload the file to my server. On the wallpaper section, the user simply selects his resolution and automatically downloads the already resized wallpaper from my server. Would that work?

Probably, depending on what your server's specs are.
But when even a normal page image download is slow (-> bad server connection) I assume the other technical details are not as good as needed.
Of course it is possible to merge it, but to program a WP plugin instead of a standalone script is more work and therefore more expensive.

Resizing. This would work, of course. But remember, that means a lot of work which you would have to do manually and you still need lots of disk space on your server (5 to 10 versions of just one single wallpaper!).

I'll look it into it. Maybe I'll find somebody to build a standalone script for me and merge it into WP. Resizing the pictures wouldn't be a problem as I've got a script which does that for me. And since I've got 5GB of server space, I think it would handle the files.

Still, thanks a lot for your help!
