  • 1. Create a page

    2. Change Setting > Reading Settings

Front page displays > Tick – A static page (select below)

Front Page > Select created page on 1.

Thanks, but still no luck. I made front page as “Home page” (this is okay). And Blog page as “Post page”. Then I created new post but it did not appear on “Blog” page nor anywhere else. What I am doing wrong? “Blog” shows same content as “home”

I won’t keep saying SAVE CHANGES – you should know to do that 😉
with every change you make! Obviously..

    Actually :-
If you are just starting out for the first time – you need to have made and published at least one page (called something like MY WEBSITE,(any page name you like), if you are unsure about this just create a page called ‘HOME’ and put some text (and images if you like), into it that you will remember as your main home page.

NEXT – If you have no posts yet, make three different sample posts with a paragraph in each. You will later see these on your /blog page that we are going to create next. If you don’t create these three posts, you will think something has gone wrong when you see your /blog page with no-posts on it. ;-(

This is going to sound like it is backwards way on, but create those posts first and then create the blank blog page as below.

    NEXT-
Create a new blank page and call it ‘BLOG’ or whatever you like. (Mt Blog) or (Site-name -Blog). Remember the name will need to fit into your menu (set up later),if it is along the top. (And if too long).

Next Publish the blank page! (sounds strange, but that’s what you do).

YOU DON’T ACTUALLY PUT THE POSTS, ONTO THE BLOG PAGE! WP does that for you, when you do the next bit and set up the HOME PAGE and BLOG PAGE in the settings. This is a mistake I’ve seen before – so beware.

Then go to SETTINGS – and READING.
You will see a setting called FRONT PAGE DISPLAYS
Change this to – STATIC PAGE.

Set the static page to ‘HOME’ and the blog page to your ‘BLOG’ page in the drop down list. (Did you see, you had to create those pages first before you can select them here)!

Any new pages you create will show up in these drop down lists, so you can create more full HOME pages and then change the page called ‘HOME’ to which page you want to be your main website landing page.

Finally, go to your Menu and make sure the HOME and BLOG pages are in the menu, if not select them or drag them into the menu and save the menu.

Let us know how you got on with those instructions.

Additionally – it seems you have done this correctly, but that you have NO CONTENT to display actually –

    That’s why I said.*** ***

Andy this is amazing – worked like a charm!!! Took me two minutes :). My posts are where I wanted them to be! Cool, thanks a lot, much appreciated! What I did before is that I created Blog page first, then set the settings and only then I published my first post (just one sentence length) – guess that was the issue.

    Cheers,
    Andr1us

    You are welcome!

    PS – I just realized;
My name is a little like yours over on steam and xBox 360 Aandraeus, go look me up. Everyone say Hi…All welcome.

Nothing is easy until you know how. I still have lots to learn.
The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know!

I’m building mobile optimised websites at the moment. Those are tricky! (Not mobile responsive sites, but mobile optimised sites).

Hi , I have a similar problem driving me nuts !

I made a website, installed wp and all was fine. Then one day i had this dream to have a static page as my front page. So listening to my calling i did the Setting > reading > front page , magic and set blog posts to ” blog ” page …. All were living happily ever after UNTIL i decided to change the permalinks from ” Default ” to ” Post ” ….. Now my http://www.mywebsite.com/blog takes me to My hosting page 🙁 What have i done here …. As abundantly clear , i am awfully new at all this so pleae HelPP
P.S …. Changing Permalinks back to default puts back everything in order

    All resolved

Thanks AndyGold. Your information was concise, right on, and just what I needed to create my first post. Of course I had to find my “Menu” under “Appearance” before I could get it to work! 🙂
