how to configure database when changing hosting (9 posts)

    Ok i went to a vps hosting and i backed up my previous website with backup wordpress plugin. i pointed servers and ip address correctly. My site display correctly but none of the functions are working. it display an error saying the documents are not found. What did i do wrong? How can i change my database so i can configure my old database to work on my new one?

    Try to find out in wp-config.php

    change host and db name in it.

    Ok i found the wp config.php
    far as changing host and db name, what would i need to change it to? how can i get it to locate the file in my new server?

    ok, I was reading the article but which plugin do i use? when it said upload serchreplace, which plugin is that?

    This plugin

    Upload searchreplacedb2.php in directory which wp-config.php located.

    That wasnt a plugin you linked in the last post, was this the one you was referring too?http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search-and-replace/ after i upload the file into the directory, then what?

    Since my site isnt working correctly, if i download the plugin into my computer and manually upoload to the directory, will it still work?

    Sorry..

    And check .htaccess

    Note that the .htaccess file can contain rules that reference the Old site. Any such references must either be removed or rewritten to reflect the New site. One approach is to save a copy of the file from the Old site and then delete it from the upload. Then add parts back in as needed.

    It is safe to remove lines between ‘# BEGIN WordPress’ and ‘# END WordPress’ because WP will recreate these lines, although you may have to assign Permalinks back to default and then back to the current assignment to trigger this.
