   There I times where I want to close off the site to do upgrades or test new features, how do i do this??

   the easiest way i've found is to create a duplicate of index.php but save it as home.php, then edit out the navigational stuff, or even just create a blank "Site down for maintenance - Please check back later" and save it as home.php

   home.php will override the index.php which is where the main page to your site lives.
