How to close blog to visitors?

    Hi,
    I’m going to do a major template change in one of my blogs and while I work on it I would like to close the blog (like it’s done on some of the most popular forum softwares like vbulletin or phpbb) and possibly put a warn page saying: blog being updated, blog under maintenance or update in progress or whatever … Is there a way to do it?

    A quick web seach should turn up several “maintenance mode” plugins.

    Personally, I usually just make an index.html with my outage message and drop it into the WP root directory.
