How to change the word "index.php" in the url to anything else?

I have my blog in another folder. I followed the instruction to have the index.php in the root folder. Whenever I go through the articles in my blog, the url shown is http://www.astronomynotes.net/index.php/2006/xxxx I want it to be shown as http://www.astronomynotes.net/blog/2006/xxx, what should I do?
