[resolved] How to change sub pages into drop down menus (4 posts)

    Hi,
We've been racking our brains over this for some time, seems like a simple problem yet having trouble solving it.
Basically we would like the sub pages to drop down from the main navigation menu instead of just being listed as subpages on the parent page.
We are using 'Oriental theme v 1.2.1' however we have customised the theme a lot.
Perhaps this theme doesn't allow us to do what we want it to, then we'd consider changing the theme however do want to keep the same customised 'look' of the site.
If anyone has any suggestion of free themes that would site the content of our site, that would be greatly appreciated!
    Anyway, website is as follows:
    http://www.thebranchfoundation.org
A good example of what page should have drop down menus instead of listed sub-pages is:

Really hope someone out there can help or give some guidance.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Tom

oriental was last updated in Feb 2009, because of this, full compatibility with the latest versions of WordPress cannot be guaranteed. oriental is provided as is, without support and there are no plans for any future updates.

Sounds like you need to look for another theme. There are many themes in http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/ that use the kind of dropdown menu you describe - including the Twenty Ten, Twenty Eleven and Twenty Twelve themes.

    thanks esmi,
i'm a real newbie when it comes to these things. As our site has been so highly customised, do you think if we did change the theme it would cause many problems? Would it also be hard to get the new theme to look like how the site looks now?
Sorry for these vague and unexperienced questions!
    Tom

It shouldn't do. Remember that you can always use the Live Preview option to see what the site would look like with a new installed theme before that theme is activated.

Would it also be hard to get the new theme to look like how the site looks now?

Unless you're going to get into some pretty deep customisation, I'd say that you're never going to get it to look exactly the same. Far better to look at this as a chance to re-launch the site with a new look and focus on choosing a theme that makes the site look good with a layout that suits your needs.
