How To? Book Database (4 posts)

I plan to create a website with a database of book information. I know how to use Microsoft Works to create a database and enter data into it, and I know HTML and CSS, and I want to use WordPress on this site. What I don't know is, how to, and if I can, integrate these things. I basically want to have a form where people can enter a title, author, synopsis, etc., and all that info will go into the appropriate fields in a database, where people can search (via the website) for the books in a database, whether by title, author, or any other data, and organize the data however they want. I want to use WordPress posts to display the data on a website.

Would I need two databases to do this? Can I use two databases on the same site? I appreciate any information, as well as suggestions, on doing this. Thank you.

You shouldd check out Now Reading http://robm.me.uk/projects/plugins/wordpress/now-reading/

It might serve some of your needs.

Hmmm...it might work. I'll have to look at in in further depth to be sure; I use CG-Amazon to post what I'm reading and wishlist stuff, but this could be useful. Thank you.

If anyone has other suggestions, though, please let me know. Thank you.

Ok, that's not what I want. I don't want a program that searches or uses Amazon. I want a program that lets individual users type in their own information, including a cover image, and the program puts the information into a post, retaining the information in the database, and one can search by any field (title, author, etc.). I want to be able to add or delete any and as many fields as I like.

Ideally, I'd be able to easily modify this program for other uses, too. Like, if I wanted to list DVDs instead, or collect information on anything. Basically, I want to be able to create a form that includes any fields I want, have it put all that info into the database upon submission (I also want to be able to approve submissions), be able to sort and search by any field, and have the information placed in a post in a particular format/order.

Does anyone know of a plugin--or even another program altogether--that does this? I prefer PHP, but will consider other programs. Thank you.
