To backup all your posts, categories etc... Go to your WordPress admin, tools, then export.

If you want to backup the full database, try something like this http://www.simplesql.net/

I too have this question but I exported the xml file and when I went to go import it, I got this error:

The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini.

How can this be? I am simply uploading the same file I downloaded 5 minutes before. I've had trouble with my blog so I was backing up before uninstalling WP in my cpanel and then reinstalling. Now I am stuck without being able to import back my xml file? Can I do it via FTP instead and if so where does it go?

    Thanks!

Good luck getting a reply to this. Do a search and you will this question unanswered. You would think a developer would add something to the codex.
