   I'd like to download 3.3 but I've never done it before and I'm still confused on how to backup my files before I download the new version. I don't want to lose any content and I have a custom template that I don't want to lose either. Can I get some help on this?

   You need to backup your database. You could also download a copy of your wp-content folder to your local machine if you want.

   So how do you perform a backup? I'm unfamiliar with both methods that are listed.

   You could try the backwpup plugin. That might make it easier for you.
