How to back-up/restore my WP site pages, menu's etc? (3 posts)

    Hi !
I admit I'm just 3 weeks new to WP but have spend many hours to setup a site with pages and no blogs/comments. Unfortunately, I've had to delete and re-install as number of times due to "white screen of death". I still do not fully understand what is causing this - but suspect an issue with a plugin.
Anyway, I would like not to keep re-doing my work every time I get a problem - so I would like to understand how to back-up and restore my site.
I'm lacking a basic understanding of where (directories and files) my sites configuration (menus, widget setup, pages etc.) are stored. I would like to be able to get a backup of these and if/when I get a crash I would like to be able to reinstall WP and then restore my site files.
Can anyone give me some directions?
    Thanks
    Rgds. Bo

First, my server (BlueHost) has a backup service that costs almost nothing extra...and the nice thing there is that I only had to make a phone call and ask one of the Support Reps to make things right again after I had once really messed things up.

BackUpWordPress http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/backupwordpress/ is a plugin a Developer had once suggested and installed for me, and it will do scheduled backups while also allowing you to do a manual backup at any time.

Personally, I rely on the backup at my server and I occasionally use Dashboard > Tools > Export to make backups I can hold on my own machine.

For my Child Theme and Uploads, I use FTP to hold copies of those locally also.

@boh001: Have you checked your site's error logs for clues? Your hosts should be able to help you with accessing these logs. There's definitely no problem with the Purple Pastels parent theme or the basic child theme.
