How to avoid repeated posts in index.php? (3 posts)

    Hello!

I have an unusual problem: I am working with a theme "magazine like" (Tutoriallo). After making many tweakings to the theme, I got stuck in one problem: some posts are in two or more categories, and the theme "chooses" some categories to place them in "reserved" places in the main page. So, if the post is in Cat1 AND Cat2, it will appear on the top of the page (reserved for Cat1) and be repeated right under it (in the area reserved for Cat2)!

I donĀ“t know how to avoid that the post appearing in Cat1 will not appear again in the same page, just because it is also related to Cat2, for example...

I hope I could explain it well... I had searched on internet and foruns but found nothing related.

    Thanks
    Jaqueline

Can you post a link to the theme page?

Off the top of my head, I don't know that you actually can fix that type of issue. I would imagine that the theme developer made the assumption that your article would only fall into one category.

Honestly, you may want to rethink your use of categories - have fewer categories - i.e. one per post, and rely more on tags to describe the post itself instead.

    Check out:

    to see what I mean.

And, if you don't mind some "heavy handed" advice:

    http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2006/03/01/tags-are-not-categories-got-it/

If all of that doesn't help - there may be something that you can do with a query_posts() call (http://codex.wordpress.org/User:JamesVL/query_posts) and a two-loop theme. I think that is out of the scope of what you are really looking for, but I figured I'd mention it.

    Best of luck!

The link for the theme is: http://www.tutorialo.com/tutorialo-free-newsmagazine-wordpress-theme/

Thanks for the links... I will read them very carefully, than I come back to tell how is my experience.

I will rethink the use of the categories. Now with the tags integrated to the wordpress is better. I always (most of the time, at least) avoid the use of many plugins, to keep my system clear and easier to update.

    =)
