Have WP 3.01 on hosted site.

Trying to add a vCard to a contact information page. When trying to upload the .vcf file via Media or using the upload option I get the following error:

“joesmith.vcf” has failed to upload due to an error
File type does not meet security guidelines. Try another.

Apparently .vcf violates some security standard. Anyone here doing it some other way?

If you are simply attempting to place a link on your blog where your visitors can download your vCard, the most efficient way to upload it would be by using your ftp client or the file manager in your hosts control panel. I don't think there would be many - if any - file extension restrictions on uploads done via ftp.

I did that. The problem I encounter is that a link to the file returns the same error in the browser when you click on it. However, if you 'right-click' on it you can save to hard drive. Clicking directly on a .vcf file returns the same error.

This is just a shot in the dark, but perhaps your server doesn't support the "text/x-vcard .vcf" mime type.

"how to" add "mime types" htaccess vcard

You can use the PJW Mime Config plugin by westi to add mime types. Maybe that will help?
