How to add images to blogroll page descriptions

I’d like to add an image to the blogroll description that I’m displaying on our links page. The codex seems to be talking about such an option, http://codex.wordpress.org/Links_Manager, with the warning that page may be out-of-date. I certainly don’t seem anything on my version, 2.8.5, link manager page about images. I’ve also hunted around for a plugin that might add this, but haven’t found anything that looks promising.

To explain, I don’t want to add images to a sidebar blogroll. It’s on a links page which is displaying a description, that I want to incorporate an image within the description.

If the description field could expect html, the problem would be solved.
